The Carver Legacy Center Grand Opening
Early April brought the promise of renewal and growth for North Omaha. Five years in the making, the Carver Legacy Center near 24th and Lake streets officially opened its doors with the purpose of creating opportunities in North Omaha to grow and sustain Black wealth. In partnership with FDIC-insured American National Bank, the Carver Legacy Center offers deposit accounts, financing and other banking services. A portion of Carver accounts will provide funding to individuals and businesses to reinvest in the community. In addition, the Carver Legacy Center offers education and support through its HUB and Accelerators and the Revive Omaha store and Pop-up Incubator.
The Carver Legacy Center’s grand opening included a press conference, ribbon cutting and open house, followed by account opening activities and a community day featuring live music, a special stop from the North Omaha Legacy Tour bus, Black business vendors and more.
Dr. Martin Williams, Co-Owner of the Carver Legacy Center, noted in the opening ceremonies, “We have to build our community around faith, family and finances…We have to talk about money in our homes, we have to start believing about money in our homes.” Part of the mission is to support community-led revitalization through homeownership and creating generational and legacy wealth. Homeownership opens the door to passing wealth from generation to generation and has been shown to stabilize communities by providing better access to education and employment opportunities.
Do them a favor, not another pair of tennis shoes. A bank account. Give them a gift that can shift their lives for generations.”
A Successful Opening Week
During the grand opening, multiple Carver Legacy accounts were opened by community members looking to “build their legacy”. Several young people started their financial journey with new accounts, the youngest being baby Ava. The Carver team and ANB’s Carver ambassadors continue to follow up on account inquiries and work on the promise to support the Carver Legacy Center’s purpose: to grow wealth in North Omaha for generations.
American National Bank is proud of our partnerships in the North Omaha community. We believe and promise to support the continued progress toward Carver Legacy Center’s goals. The first step to enacting change is to understand where we’ve been, where we are now, and our goals. Lynnell Williams, Co-Owner of the Carver Legacy Center said of our children in the grand opening ceremonies, “Do them a favor, not another pair of tennis shoes. A bank account. Give them a gift that can shift their lives for generations.”
Continuing the Legacy
Keep an eye out for more information on upcoming community days where clients can open Carver accounts at the Carver Legacy Center on 24th and Lake. Currently, clients are able to open Carver accounts (deposits, financing) at any American National Bank location.
